Volunteer with us

Volunteers at AMCS make a difference to the lives of many people in the community.

We work with over 300 volunteers who generously donate their time in various ways.

AMCS rely on volunteers to offer their time and skills to help us deliver our much-needed services. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, contribute to the community, help others and gain experience.

Anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer! From migrants, students, and seniors to board members and professionals, we welcome you to join our team.

In February 2023, AMCS expanded our volunteering capabilities when Volunteer Resource Centre, Volunteer West, joined our organisation. For expanded volunteering opportunities in Melbourne’s Western Region, volunteer resources and research and information, be sure to visit Volunteer West.

You will be supported during an onboarding process where you will receive training, a volunteer manual which details your responsibilities as an AMCS volunteer, and support from our volunteer coordinators to ensure you feel comfortable in your new role. Each year, we celebrate the contribution that AMCS volunteers make to the community with outings and event celebration opportunities. Enjoy being supported in your role as you support those who need it most.

Volunteering Options

Senior Support & Companionship

Our companionship volunteers visit seniors in their homes or aged care facilities for a minimum of six months.

Weekly and fortnightly visits include:

  • sharing stories over a cup of tea
  • mutual hobbies and interests
  • watching TV or listening to the radio
  • reading books or newspapers
  • walking and outings
  • shopping assistance
  • home visits

Many seniors speak languages other than English. Please let us know if you are bilingual or multilingual and we will match you appropriately.

Volunteering your time for companionship visits for seniors is incredibly rewarding as you reduce social isolation for people and make a real difference in someone’s life.
