Companionship Visits

We provide one-on-one social support visits that provide companionship and can also include help with shopping, bills, and accessing appointments.

To provide companionship to seniors, AMCS offers three different Volunteer Visiting Programs which all match older adults and volunteers with a shared cultural background, hobbies and interests:

Visiting Programs for Seniors

Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS) Home Care

Fortnightly support for seniors on the waiting list or currently part of the Support at Home program, including companionship or some joined activities, phone or virtual contact, or email and mail exchange.

Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS) Residential Care

Fortnightly support for seniors who live in an aged care facility, including companionship, some joined activities, phone and virtual contact, or email and mail exchange.

Social Support Individual (SSI)

Weekly one-on-one social support for clients, including companionship, activities like shopping, paying bills, attendance at appointments, or phone and virtual contact. You must be living at home, not receiving services through the Support at Home, and have a referral through My Aged Care.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme is funded by the Australian Government. The scheme provides aged care volunteer services through a volunteer visiting program, offering senior companion services and home visiting programs for elderly people to reduce loneliness.

Companionship Visits FAQs

Am I eligible to request a volunteer visitor?

Do you or your care recipient meet the following criteria?

  • 65 years old or above
  • Recieve services through the Support at Home program, or live in residential aged care or are registered with My Aged Care and have a Social Support Individual referral

If so, please fill in the registration form below. If you have any questions about your circumstances, please contact the AMCS Volunteer Coordinators on volunteer@amcservices.org.au or AMCS reception at (03) 9689 9170 and we will be happy to assist you.

How do I become a volunteer visitor?

We always need more volunteers, especially those who can speak multiple languages. AMCS volunteers receive a comprehensive induction, regular training and ongoing support from Volunteer Coordinators. All of the above caters for clients’ needs, abilities and interest, and is free of charge.
