How does the Commonwealth Homecare Support Program work?

The Government subsidises organisations such as AMCS, known as service providers, to provide affordable care and services for eligible seniors.   For a small contribution, entry-level support provides services to seniors, with costs varying depending on the level of service required:

Eligibility

The programme is available to people aged 65 years and over, and Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over.

Cost

If eligible, you may need to contribute to care costs. The client contribution is determined by each provider based on the National CHSP Client Contribution Framework and paid by the client.

Waiting time for home help

First, you will need to undergo an assessment to determine your care needs. After that, the service availability of a service provider in your area will determine how soon you can receive the services you require.

Where to start

Navigating the aged care services can be difficult, made even more challenging for culturally and linguistically diverse people.

AMCS offer practical support to navigate the aged care system. Learn more about our Senior Support and Advice program.
